Everyday Ways to Appreciate Your Friends

Say it loud, say it clear.

There’s nothing like starting a new endeavor (or, say, a global pandemic) to make you appreciate your friends. This very newsletter is a byproduct of friendship—whether introducing us to interesting people to profile or enabling us to share the latest/greatest reads & ideas among ourselves. As grown-ups, we know the time is always right to tell our besties what they mean to us—that waiting for the next big milestone is just not a thing. In fact, we’d argue there’s greater joy in showering the people we love with love when they least expect it.

SWAK.

Ever since our summer camp days, we’ve loved getting letters—the kind that arrive in real-life, physical form that creates an actual connection between sender and recipient. So lately, we’ve taken to reusing those promotional stickers that come with nearly every online order to send proper 8th grade-level notes to friends. (Frankly, we aren’t sure who enjoys it more.) We also keep these hilarious cards on hand so we’ve got the correspondence cred when inspiration hits. Prefer a little shortcut? Try the Felt app, where you can design beautiful digital cards then sign, seal and deliver them right from your phone.

Say it with snaps.

Sure we all have about a kajillion photos, but we rarely get a chance to enjoy them when they’re all sequestered in their own little digital world. For something more accessible, why not put a selection of you and your BFF into these cute little albums and ship them off? We guarantee the gesture will have your friend cheesing all over again.

Get crafty.

Once upon a time, we were friendship bracelet masters: putting beautifully colored embroidery floss together, securing it on a clipboard and weaving away much of our youth. The best part? spotting our creations on the wrists of our friends (all-gender inclusive). These days, it’s great to see both young and old still sporting arm parties, so this summer, we plan to grab some supplies and delight in creating once more. If the craft of friendship bracelets eluded you in the past, we recommend this kit, which takes some confusion out of the equation.
